Description

A delicious and comforting Italian-American dish featuring breaded chicken, marinara sauce, and melted mozzarella cheese.


Ingredients

  • 2 large chicken breasts
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F. Cut each chicken breast in half lengthwise to make 4 thinner pieces.
  2. In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, flour, salt, and black pepper.
  3. In a separate dish, combine the breadcrumbs, parmesan, and Italian seasoning.
  4. Dredge the chicken in the egg wash and shake off excess. Transfer to the breadcrumb mixture and coat thoroughly, ensuring no bald spots.
  5. Heat a large pan over medium heat and add the olive oil. Cook the chicken for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Spread half of the marinara sauce in a 9×13 baking dish. Lay the chicken in a single layer over the sauce, then spoon the remaining marinara over the top. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
  7. Bake uncovered for 15 minutes or until the cheese melts and the sauce is bubbling. Enjoy!

Notes

For extra flavor, marinate the chicken in Italian dressing for a couple of hours before dredging. Use fresh mozzarella for a creamier texture.
